Another Blockchain Application in Healthcare

In the past few years, the healthcare community has encountered problems in securing patient data. Thus, several hospitals have been the target of ransomwares. Blockchain technology could be a major game changes in this scenario

In April 2017, the two US and Canadian computer security agencies (the Computer Emergency Readiness Team and the Canadian Cyber Incident Response Center) pointed to the resurgence of the phenomenon.

Blockchain Technology seems to be the right choice to fight this phenomenon, because of its speed, efficiency and safety.

IBM Watson Health, a subsidiary of IBM specializing in the development of software solutions dedicated to the healthcare industry, announced last January its cooperation with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to develop Blockchain-based applications to solve this problem.

This project is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2019, while the first results of their research will be revealed later this year.

In addition to data security, blockchain technology could transfer them between different services in a much faster and more uniform way.

IBM is not the only company interested in this type of project. Hashed Health, a start-up that raised $ 1.85 million in February to develop Blockchain-based software solutions for the US healthcare industry.

In addition to the above, the United Arab Emirates in January, through a partnership between UAE Telecom and NMC Healthcare, also decided to integrate Blockchain technology into the health service with the Electronic Health Record software solution EHR, providing near perfect data security and the ability for patients to have immediate access to their medical data.
