Justin Sun, the founder and CEO of Tron (TRX) wins an eBay charity auction that entitles him for a lunch date with a renowned investor and Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett, as revealed by Cointelegraph on June 3.
Warren Buffett has organized this charity auction for the past 20 years, and this year Sun won the bid with a record-breaking $4,567,888, reportedly. As per a report from Bloomberg, the winner, who has been previously unnamed will bring seven friends along for lunch with Buffett at a steakhouse in New York.
The proceeds from the auction will benefit the San Francisco-based non-profit GLIDE Foundation. The press release notes, the GLIDE foundation is focused on fighting injustice and inequality for the economically deprived and oppressed communities, that includes the homeless, ethnic minorities and LGBTQ orientation.
Reportedly, Buffett’s wife, who passed in 2004, have had been a GLIDE volunteer. Buffet has since than committedly contributed to the foundation, raising over $30 million to date in auction proceeds.
Sun emphasized in a statement, the importance of contributing to a foundation that aids the local communities, he noted:
“BitTorrent and TRON’s US headquarters are in San Francisco, and bidding on this charity auction was a key priority for our team. I’m proud to have my bid donated to GLIDE, a foundation that provides critical support for our local homeless community.”
As per the press release, this year the auction was hosted in cooperation with the “eBay for Charity” initiative, that allows members of eBay’s online community to support their chosen charities. The initiative has reportedly managed to raise around $912 million for nonprofits via the e-commerce community to date.
Karen Hanrahan, the CEO and president of GLIDE, stated that 100% of Sun’s contribution would be used “to help people overcome barriers such as homelessness, addiction, hunger, and social isolation and reach their full potential.”
Sun and Tron foundation has been greatly involved in evolving the community, especially the crypto community. Just recently Sun offered to personally compensate the loss incurred top crypto exchange Binance due to a major hack last month. Similar offers were also made from the members such as Coinbase and QKC and Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao gratefully acknowledged the offer and declined.
Notably, Buffett has been well-known an anti-crypto stance, so much so, calling bitcoin as “probably rat poison squared.” Though, he has recently made positive comments for blockchain. The equation definitely makes Sun’s charity lunch with Warren Buffett an interesting meeting.
