Another Bitcoin Fraud in India, Case Filed Against 7 in Thane

The number of cases of cryptocurrency scams and frauds in India has been on a rise like never before. Despite a large number of caution to people regarding being careful in an investment, people are lured by several, impractical promising investments.

 

In the latest bitcoin fraud, a man has been allegedly duped of 22.59 lakh after seven men pursued him to invest in bitcoins launched by a company, the police reported.
A case of cheating has been registered at the Khadakpada police station but no arrest has been made so far, the police said.
According to a news report by NDTV, police said that the victim, Raghuveer Kulkarni, 45, was introduced to a bitcoin investment scheme of a company by one of his friends who promised him good returns.
By February 2017, he had invested a total of Rs. 22.59 lakh into the company.

Soon after the investment, the 7 accused people associated with this company failed to pay Mr. Kulkarni his share,  closed down their business and fled, the police said.

 

BTC is a form of digital currency that is supposed to provide a secure and private alternative to conventional money. According to the government, bitcoins or such cryptocurrencies are not legal tender in the country.
