The very first university Blockchain course of Australia has been launched by RMIT, a public research Aussie university. Business Insider Australia reports that this 8-week Blockchain course named as “Developing Blockchain Strategy” promises to offer a practical program to students by going beyond the conceptual trait of Blockchain. The online course description reads out as, “You won’t just get a theoretical understanding of blockchain: you’ll learn how to use it.”

This Blockchain course has been designed by RMIT’s Blockchain Innovation Hub in collaboration with fintech hub Stone & Chalk and consulting firm Accenture.

The entry level program will cost AUD$1,500 and will be available to all entrants, students. The completion of the course will be followed by members qualified for one full credit unit (12 credit points) into select RMIT business programs at a bachelor or master level to be perceived by prospective employers.

Director of Blockchain Innovation Hub, Jason Potts revealed to Business Australia Insider that:

“It’s one of those things where a whole lot of different technologies have come together to contribute to it working […] Much of this course is designed to help executives and business leaders to understand not just how this new technology works, and understanding what’s actually behind it, but also how it reflects business models and business strategy.”

Alan Tsen, the general manager of Stone & Chalk feels that this kind of course is necessary given the strong connectivity between banks, fintech and blockchain. Tsen says:

“Banks are already behind blockchain technology in a big way […] There is a real demand for blockchain training and a skills gap in the market that needs to be addressed.

UC Berkeley also offers an inter-disciplinary Blockchain course. A separate Southern California study is expected to be released within June focusing on the potential career pathways for students who wish to work in the Blockchain plethora. The Australian Securities Exchange’s (ASX) announced in December 2017 that they are going to become the world’s visionaries by replacing their present equity processing system using Blockchain. The Brisbane Airport announced in January this year that it has plans in place to convert their entire airport terminal into a cryptocurrency friendly space by accepting Ether, Bitcoin and Dash in all its stores and restaurants.
