Baidu, the Chinese search giant has introduced a unique blockchain platform that will simplify the commercial deployment of decentralized apps or dapps. Touted to be sort of an operating system, the  Baidu Blockchain Engine (BBE) platform will allow developers to produce with ease.

According to the official announcement by Baidu Cloud on Thursday, the BBW will make developing blockchain applications, “just like mobile apps,” notably circumventing the “bottlenecks” that are holding up blockchain’s potential. Built on what the company calls the ABC (AI, Big Data, cloud computing) technology stack, the platform will enable consumers could explore and develop ways to commercialize blockchain tech.

The system will be hosted on Baidu’s “intelligent” cloud platform and employ a modular blockchain framework in order to provide developers with a multi-chain system that includes smart contract templates, dapp templates and other services aimed to make development simple and fast.

In addition, the platform will support deployment in the customer’s existing enterprise framework and can be set up as a”highly available and flexible” blockchain blockchain-as-a-service platform. The platform will support various blockchain scenarios including consortium and private chains, the post says.

According to the post, BBE offers six primary features including a trusted computing environment, cross-chain interactions, high performance, high throughput, scalable storage and “intelligent” smart contracts and smart contract security auditing. It’s also designed to provide security of data and privacy protection.

BBE will support features such as credit, metering, and transactions for consumer-focused finance. Baidu claims, the system can also support the verification of 50 billion tokenized assets.

Known to be active on the blockchain front, the company has released a white paper for its Xuperchain blockchain network last September. In addition, it launched a photo app and a space-focused game on the blockchain, and now stores revisions to its Chinese Wikipedia-like encyclopedia site on a blockchain too.
