Bitmain Launches Texas Mining Facility Proposed To Be ‘World’s Largest’

Bitmain, a major Chinese manufacture of mining hardware, has announced that it has opened in Rockdale, Texas, what could easily be the largest mining farm in the world. This is because even though the facility currently has a 25MW capacity and another 50MW still being constructed, the large expanse of land which is 33,000 acres, can handle an expansion of more than 300MW if Bitmain later decides to.

According to an official news release, the facility was build with support from the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD), as well as DMG Blockchain Solutions, a Canadian company.

In 2018, Bitmain had made an announcement that it would be building a mining facility in Texas, a project which was expected to gulp an investment of $500 million for about seven years. The company also announced that the facility would be ready by 2020 and is expected to create at least 400 jobs.

The Bitmain Lead Project Manager, Clinton Brown, has stressed Bitmain’s aim at expansion as well as the choice of Texas. Brown said:

“We are excited to launch this facility, which is significant to Bitmain’s global expansion plans. The stable and efficient energy resources in Texas are fundamental to the inevitable scale of growth for the cryptocurrency mining industry.”

Bitmain also plans to partner with schools, to teach students about blockchain technology and cryptocurrency mining. The company will however have to contend with Layer1, which just received $50 million in funding, to launch another crypto mining facility in Texas as well.
