Cryptopia, the New Zealand-based cryptocurrency exchange resumes it trading on 40 trade pairs, almost two months after it faced a $16 million hack, as announced by the platform via a tweet on March 18.

Following a $16 million hack in mid-January, Crytopia has been quite open about the subsequent procedures from supporting the New Zealand Police in their investigation to when the authorities allowed the exchange to resume its operations.

When the hack occurred in January, the platform initially announced its user that it was undergoing unscheduled maintenance, later they disclosed about the breach. After the initial reports of the hack, evidence surfaced that hackers were reportedly syphoning cryptocurrency out of the exchange as late as two weeks later.

User Balance

In its last announcement that stated that the exchange will go live again by the end of March, Cryptopia’s co-founder Rob (Hex) Dawson referred to the read-only form of Cryptopia’s website launched on March 5.

The exchange explained that the website could be used to reset passwords and two-factor authentication credentials, a top priority issue at this stage in terms of client support. In addition, the account balances were shown to be as they were at Jan. 14, 2019, the date of the hack.

Hex went on to specify that users who have had lost their funds, would see a section titled  “Withdraws on your account for those coins.” He explained that transaction IDs (TXIDs) for the withdraw orders will not exist on the network, but include details on how the coin had been impacted during the event.
