Deloitte, one of the “Big Four” accounting and professional services firms in the world, has begun receiving Bitcoin payments from members of its staff in Luxembourg who would prefer to use the digital currency for to pay for meals at the company’s canteen. This service will only be available to staff for food payments and has not yet been spread to clients. According to a Deloitte advisory exec, Laurent Collet:
“We think it’s good to have our employees assess this new technology.”
This move by the company is another one by Deloitte in the drive for adoption of both blockchain and digital currencies. Deloitte has been trying its hands on using blockchain for various services and projects in the past, which has spurred the firm to setup an internal blockchain team as well as dedicated blockchain related outfits in many parts of the world. Deloitte has also tried its hands on Ripple’s payment system but has not yet fully adopted it.
According to Collet, Deloitte is a lot more focused on blockchain than it is on cryptocurrency. It wants to use blockchain technology to facilitate its fund management process and also improve transaction efficiency which would make their services a lot more seamless and also completely eliminate the middleman. Collet said:
“This is where we focus our attention right now in linking this new technology with the needs of the Luxembourg industry.”
On the other hand, PricewaterhouseCoopers – another one of the “Big Four” – has announced that its Luxembourg branch will begin accepting Bitcoin payments from clients.
