The E-commerce giant, eBay denies rumors that it will start accepting cryptocurrencies as a payment method, as reported by Bloomberg on May 14.

Speculations about the addition started off when eBay took out ads at the Consensus conference in New York City. One of the billboards stated that “Virtual Currency. It’s happening on eBay.”

The unexplained surge in crypto prices these past few weeks is more or less without explanation, however, the surge could purportedly be the trigger for eBay’s change of heart, i.e. if the platform is accepting cryptocurrencies.

The online auction site touts itself as “the world’s largest marketplace,” and such a move could become a major milestone for the ecosystem to achieve mainstream adoption. eBay spokesperson rumors stated:

“Cryptocurrency is not accepted as a form of payment on the eBay platform, nor is it part of our payments strategy.”

Currently, the online marketplace does have a section marked Virtual Currency, wherein the people can use traditional monetary forms to purchase crypto from sellers.
