Euro to Bitcoin and Ethereum ATMs Launched at Amsterdam Airport

Amsterdam Schipol Airport | Bitcoin and Ethereum ATMs | Exchange Euro's with Bitcoin and Ethereum | Bitcoin updates

The Schiphol International Airport in Amsterdam currently has crypto ATMs within their halls, where you are able to swap Bitcoin and Ethereum with Euros or another way around. The notion is that passengers may swap their ‘leftover’ Euros into crypto.

The ATM is installed for a six-month trial period, to gauge demand for the service among passengers. Schiphol says that it is the first European airport to offer such service to travellers.

Tanja Dik, director of Consumer Products and Services at Schiphol said in the announcement.

“Schiphol is constantly looking for ways to innovate and provide optimum service to passengers. With the Bitcoin ATM, we hope to provide a useful service to passengers by allowing them to easily exchange ‘local’ euros for the ‘global’ cryptocurrencies Bitcoin and Ethereum. That can be beneficial if, for instance, it’s not possible to spend euros in their home country.”

The ATM has been introduced in partnership with ByeleX Data Solutions BV — a Dutch company that provides cryptocurrency payment integration services to businesses.

It is worth noting that Schiphol is not the first airport in the world to lend support to cryptocurrencies. In a first, merchants at Brisbane Airport in Australia integrated cryptocurrency payments in May.

It has become apparent that the airport’s team believes that this move towards accepting cryptocurrencies will be well received by customers. Schiphol Airport has become one of the largest airports in the world, being a hub of international travel and accepting upwards of 68 million tourists each year. Introducing a cryptocurrency ATM, although only one, should prove to be a great way for one of the world’s largest airports to expose millions of travelers to this growing industry.

Despite the country earning a name for itself as an early provider of Bitcoin payment accessibility, across Europe, its ATM tally still lags behind market leader the UK, which has a reported 152 machines.
