The very much talked about G20 summit that took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina last week has been delivering a number of news about the cryptocurrency scenario. France’s minister of Finance Bruno Le Maire at the summit, highlighted the role bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in the world’s economy. Le Maire said that it was France, along with Germany, which called for cryptocurrencies to placed on G20 agenda.
According to minister’s statement, France is believed to prep up on cryptocurrency regulations sooner than the rest of the countries so as to put Europe at the forefront of the digital economy. G20 was also in the news recently when it was decided that it is now going to welcome recommendations on crypt regulations, with the ultimate deadline of July.

The minister didn’t scale out the possibility of seeing central banks issuing their own cryptocurrencies – an idea that’s now been acknowledged by central bankers throughout the world.
Le Maire also believes that financial technology is crucial for the “market to develop in the best possible way.” As per his statement (translated from French),
“We agree that crypto-assets can be very interesting for everyone. And we – obviously – are in favor of blockchain technology, which can provide very good support to financial assets in Europe or anywhere in the world. We are in favor of these technologies, but we want these technologies to be secure and therefore we need to define very clear measures for their regulation. “
Earlier this year, Le Maire also announced a cryptocurrency task force, chaired by a former central banker. His statement at that time was,
“We want a stable economy: we reject the risks of speculation and the possible financial diversions linked to bitcoin. I have just entrusted Jean-Pierre Landau, former deputy governor of the Banque de France, with a mission on cryptocurrencies.”
