Hahn Air, a German airline, has begun the process of ticket issuance using blockchain technology. According to a recent press release Hahn Air is the first air travel company in the world, to achieve this feat. Hahn Air was able to do this via a collaboration between the airline and Winding Tree, a blockchain firm with a focus on the travel sector.
According to Hahn Air’s Head of Sales Engineering Frederick Nowotny, the airline company is heavily focused on new technologies and what they can do to improve the travel sector. Nowotny said:
“We at Hahn Air are constantly exploring new technologies and we are proud to now demonstrate our technical capability to issue blockchain-powered Hahn Air tickets … Our goal is to investigate and monitor the opportunities this technology holds for travel distribution, even if widespread acceptance is still a vision of the future.”
Hahn Air also adds that with help from Winding Tree, all related activity including inventory listing, receiving payments, reservation management, and others, are now being carried out using blockchain technology. In addition, Hahn can now accept cash, credit cards or digital currencies with two cryptocurrencies supported including the LIF token and Ether (ETH).
The company also encourages others in the sector to make the move to blockchain as it ensures significant levels of transparency, security, and also easy interaction with all market participants, without the need for middlemen.
Cryptocurrency adoption in the travel industry is increasing and Hahn Air has taken it a step further with blockchain tickets.
