Google Returns MetaMask To Play Store Following Recent Ban

Digital Assets

Just about a week ago, Google kicked crypto wallet and browser MetaMask off its Play Store. The tech giant accused MetaMask of engaging in prohibited activities including crypto mining. However, MetaMask has now been restored to the Play Store.

According to a tweet posted by MetaMask on New Year’s Day, Google reversed its ban “upon careful consideration.” MetaMask, in the same tweet, expressed gratitude to its community for their unwavering support.

In subsequent tweets, MetaMask further acknowledged that it had received several suggestions for alternate distribution methods. It would be fair to assume that the firm is considering these methods, as a proactive measure. In the tweet, MetaMask said:

“This experience has made us more resilient, and as a community, we are stronger for enduring it.”

Even though the decision has been reversed, it’s interesting to think that Google swooped into action without proper investigation. Many have suggested that there might be a silent crackdown on the crypto community.

For a while now, Google has been quite unreceptive of the industry and has stifled growth by blocking crypto ads. Late last month as well, crypto YouTubers cried out when their content began to disappear from YouTube.

YouTube, through a spokesperson, has said that the disappearance of crypto videos was an error. The spokesperson also insisted that the rumour of a crackdown is false. Regardless, some YouTubers insist that some of their deleted content has still not been restored.
