Ousted Frenchman Steals Bitcoin Worth 1 Million Euros In Revenge Plot

Bitcoin

A French man has been arrested and indicted by authorities in France, for stealing Bitcoin (BTC) worth more than 1 million euros. The man, an entrepreneur in the tech industry, apparently did it for revenge.

According to a news story from French media Le Parisien, the man stole 182 BTC in Bitcoin from his ex-colleagues. Formerly a part of a tech start-up, the man along with a few other executives, was fired by the company. The report states that this was due to several problems and disagreements about forming and following management strategies.

After leaving the company, the man reportedly also left the country supposedly to find greener pastures. The greener pastures, however, turned out to be hacking-related.

The tech start-up whose business involves the use of digital assets found out that their crypto balances were consistently being reduced. From Dec. 2018 to Jan 2019, the ex-employee repeatedly stole amounts too small to set off any alarms.

An investigation conducted by the French Gendarmerie’s cybercrime division (C3N) fingered the man and led to his arrest. He was eventually picked up in Paris, just as he returned from Calvados. He confessed to the theft, admitting that he did it “out of revenge.” French authorities are now holding some of the funds.

At the moment, the investigation is trying to find out if there were accomplices.

Months ago, six individuals were arrested by Europol, for stealing more than $27 million worth of crypto.
