Telegram Releases Code for Running Nodes on its Blockchain Testnet

Telegram has officially released the code for its upcoming Telegram Open Network (TON) project, for potential participants who are interested in running a blockchain node. It was released on Friday the 6th of September, on its official test network portal. This means that everyone in the Telegram community, developers or not, can now run full or validator nodes.

TON Labs CTO, Mitja Goroshevsky, has spoken on this, also saying that a Public test for developers is scheduled for release on Monday the 9th of September.

“Source code for a full node that can access testnet, create and validate blocks has been released.

Goroshevsky further added that Telegram on its own, is handling at least 100 nodes on the same testnet and the official mainnet is expected to launch latest by Thursday the 31st of October. Back in 2018, Telegram successfully raised $1.7 billion its Initial Coin Offering (ICO).

A few months ago, it was announced that Telegram was creating a new programming language for its Network. Called Fift, it was reported that the new language was specifically for the creation and management of smart contracts on the TON blockchain as well as to interact with the TON Virtual Machine (TVM).
